Interview with Eddie
from Dwelling Madness, by Jen
Give
us some Dwelling Madness history.
Ok Dwelling Madness has been around the baltimore scene playing metal
for quite some time now , there's been several lineup changes , Gary is
a original member and he came up with the name . I was in the band when
we were around a couple yrs back so was Joe . Then Gary joined Pessimist
brought Joe into Pessimist , and that's where they met Eric our bassist
. Things didn't work out so they got Dwelling back together and asked
me to join back , and that's it .
The band has been together for years, have you
been part of it from the beginning?
No i got with them in 95 they were around like since 92 or 93 . Then we
all kinda had a friendly breakup in 98 . We got back together in 2000.
What
other bands have you played in before Dwelling?
I played in a couple thrash bands back in the day , i played in Season
Of Fear that's where i met Joe . gary has only been in Dwelling and Pessimist
, and for a while he was jamming with Psygotogen, Jim not sure what other
bands joe is been in , But Eric our bassist has played in Ciborium, Pessimist
,and i think Neptune, But he plays bass with us and Severed Head , he
plays drums for F. U ,A , and is helping out Tortured on bass till they
find some one.
How long have you been playing guitar? What kind
of equipment do you use?
I been playing guitar for like 17 or 18 yrs now me and Gary been playing
the same amount of time . I use Ibanez guitars Digitech outboard gear
and Ampeg cabinets.
Give me all the details about the CD you guys
put out. When was it recorded? Where? Are you happy with it?
Ok it was recorded in jan 2002, it took like a day to do all the songs
like 3 days to mix and a day to master so it was really quick. We recorded
at Orion Studios . Well we are not real happy with it , but we basically
made it to have some to get our name out and get in some clubs .i guess
for the amount of time it took to record it and the cost which was really
cheap $3oo.oo dollars none of us can complain.
What has been the reaction to the CD so far?
Are most people into it?
Well so far everyone who has it or has heard it always says they really
like it ! We haven't really had any bad reviews on it . So its been a
very positive reaction, but like i said this was not a really serious
effort it was just some thing to get our name out and put something out
for everyone until we could make a full length . Its not like we were
trying to put out a shitty cd its just that at that time that's all we
could afford , and we wanted to be able to have some thing to give out
to people .
How
would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?
Eddie: Well if you go on our web site http://www.dwellingmadness.com
right under our name it says Hellish Technical Death Metal . So i guess
that's the best description, but to be more detailed about it i would
say we are basically a death metal band with some black metal influences
some hardcore and grind influence , also we are a very guitar oriented
band lots of solos and harmony's! so fast , heavy , brutal , and melodic
.
What is happening with Deathraped Records? Are
you guys still negotiating a record deal with them? Where does that deal
stand right now?
Well we have been talking to death rape for a few months now , we are
in the process of signing a cd deal with them. We should be going in the
studio to cut a full length with them in may .We are happy with the deal
and they are really into the underground , and always sending us info
bout shows coming up and other stuff . So we are basically with Death
Rape and should be going in the studio in early 2003.
How often do you guys play shows? what has been
the draw for you guys?
Eddie: We play like about 2 shows a month ,but lately we been taking time
off to write a bunch of new stuff . So far we have 4 new songs and working
on more so we plan on making 2003 a busy yr for us . Our draw is pretty
good here in Baltimore , i guess like 25 to 50 people a show .
How is the scene in MD right now? Is that where
you play most of your shows?
Eddie: The scene isn't the greatest here but its not really bad there
is like three or four clubs to play here and its getting a lot better
more clubs are opening up and having heavier bands play so i think its
getting better !
What was your favorite show to play so far?
Eddie: Wow that's a hard one , I really liked the James murphy benefit
even though there wasn't a huge amount of people there but the trip was
kool ( Indianapolis) and meeting James Was awesome! , Hal's is always
really fun to play to . So i don't know i just love playing.
Who are some of the bands you have played with?
Eddie: We have played with Lividity, Psygotogen , Severed Head , Vile
Existence, F. U. A , True Unholy Death, And a bunch of other bands .
What bands are you listening to right now?
Eddie: Hahahah well this is a good question cause i don't really listen
to metal much anymore. I love to play it and when i pick a guitar up metal
come out of me but i really like the whole instrumental thing like Steve
Vai ,Joe Satriani , Yngwie Malmsteen, i listen to a lot of Jazz ,classical
,Symphonic , and old shit like Yes Genisis and stuff. I haven't really
gotten into a lot of new metal bands i like what i like . I guess the
newest metal stuff i really like is Dimmu Borgir Children of Bodom and
Stuff like that .
What is in the future for Dwelling Madness? Are
you writing new material now? Playing shows?
Eddie: Well we are going in the studio in May to cut a full length with
Death Rape Rec. We have a bunch of new material its heavy, fast and brutal
,and once the cd gets out there well will be playing a good amount of
shows here in maryland and a lot out of state . So the future is looking
very good !!!!
Anything else you would like to add?
Well we would like to thank you for the review you gave us and this interview!!
and hope to see you at the Thunderdome in march . Other then that may
the force be with you :)
