Interview with Jimmie
White from Hatchetwork, by Jen
2007 Update: I got a little nervous, I went to their home page, and it was a search engine. Good thing I checked out their myspace, they have a new website. I corrected the link at the bottom of the page. They played a ton of shows earlier this year, they played the Texas Hellfest, opened for Crowbar, Pryrexia and Crematorium and had a mini Texas tour. January 2008 will be the release of their second album. Can't wait to hear it.
You
guys have a great sound, who did the production for you on the Spineless
release?
Spineless was produced and engineered by Danny Stapleton at Music Lab
in South Austin TX.
When did the CD come out?
Spineless debuted in Sept. of 2004.
Are
you in the process of writing any new material, or have you recently?
We actually are in the process of finishing up our roster for our next
album which should come out early 2007. Fans can expect nothing but faster
and more brutal grooves.
Give
us some background on the band, how long you have been together, how you
guys all came together, etc.
Well actually, Jeff and myself have alway jammed together. From one idea
for a band to another we just stayed together. Derek has come and gone
several times due to his family moving around when we were younger. Justin
had always been a friend of ours and is Derek's cousin. He played in little
jams with neighbors and was in our High school band. We started hatchetwork,
and he tried out and has been blasting ever since. So its pretty much
just a bunch of best friends in a small town that all share a love for
extreme metal. I never would have dreamed that there was enough people
who love metal to even start a band in this small town, but it happened
and we ain't stopping.
Have
you guys been getting much play on the Austin station 101X, on the No
Control program?
Yea , we stay in regular rotation up there. Chuck's a buddy and a fan
so that works out. No Control has done wonders for us. We can't say enough
about Chuck and 101X. They have really opened up the scene in Austin to
the point that bands from all over are trying to play Austin which 3 years
ago was pretty much a dead scene.
How
has myspace helped the band out? Are you finding new fans due to it?
Myspace is pretty much the best thing to happen to music in 50 years.
We have people from Alaska to Thailand sending us messages. We make new
fans daily, and get a chance to get music out to a global audience. Myspace
is the savior of music in my book.
Give
us the details on your video you have out currently.
Our video for right now is a live recording of "Subject to Hate".We
took footage from one of our shows at the Backroom before it closed its
doors. Best venue in town!!! With the new album approaching we are stepping
it up to a better quality recording and try to stay away from the live
footages thing. Its played out to say the least.
You
have some awesome break down parts, how does the crowd react when you
are playing out? The place must erupt into a big pit.
Man I can't say enough about our live show, we have such good fans they
show up and give it their all. I've seen broken arms, legs, teeth getting
knocked out to places catching on fire. Our pits are the most brutal by
far. I think the break downs pretty much start riots. LOL!!
How
is the area where you guys are from for shows? Do you have to travel far
for a lot of them, or do you have clubs in the area?
Well we live in Burnet Tx, its about an hour and twenty minutes from Austin.
Burnet has its moments they town supports us really well for being so
heavy. All the musicians around here mostly play folk or country music.
As far as traveling we go anywhere. We try to tour about 4 times a year.
Our last tour took us to Iowa and back and right now we are in the process
of booking a tour to LA.
Are
you guys up for trading any shows, and if so, what is the best way to
get in touch with you?
We are up for trading show with anyone as long as they can draw a crowd
too. Alot of times we trade gigs and give a band a great show and in return
we go to their turf and play in front of nobody. So in turn we have learned
to check out bands before tradeing shows. If anyone wants to trade show
contact us on myspace!!! How else???? LOL!!!
Who
are some of the influences of the band?
Oh man we love so much metal. Pantera of course, and Dying Fetus (Jon
Gallagher wrote the book on breakdowns), Decapitated, Slayer, Misery Index,
Lamb of God, Black Dahlia Murder, Suffocation, Pyrexia, Led Zeppelin,
god the list could go on forever.
What
are your favorite releases of 2006 so far?
I think Slayer's new album fucking rocks. Cannibal Corpse's KILL is brutaly
heavy, and the new Viral Load is blowing me away!!!!!
Anything
else you would like to plug or tell us about?
I want to tell all our fans out there to hang tight we're coming to your
town as soon as we can to blow your shit away!!!!
