2007 Update: These guys have been updating their site a lot with news. They have a new website, which I updated below. They also have a myspace, which I added to the bottom. They have released a new album called Holy Murder Masquerade earlier this year and have been touring a lot to promote it. They also had their first US show this year at the New England Hardcore and Metal Festival in MA. It also looks like they are signed to Metal Blade Europe now.

2005 Update: A while ago our old label Karmageddon Media released a CD with old Impious material, which contains demos and covers. Many people have been asking us “dudes, what’s up with that release?”. Please note that we have nothing to do with this release. We would recommend it to die hard fans only… other than that, we consider it as a pure rip off. Also they have been playing festivals non stop.

Impious Interview with bassist Robin Sörqvist by Jen

How long has Impious been together?
We have been together as a band since 94.
How did the band start?
We are basically from the same town. Martin (guitar, vox) and Valle (guitar) started the band. Then joined Johan Lindstrand (ex. vox The Crown) on drums. I came in as the last needed person to make IMPIOUS a band, on bass. After Johan quit the band Marko Tervonen (guitar The Crown) took the drumsticks. The guys in The Crown has been a great helping hand. Then came Ulf and stayed in the band on drums. The latest changes are: Martin - (vocals), Valle - (guitars), Robin - (guitars, backing vocals), Ulf - (drums) and Erik Petersen - (bass). Erik joined the band when Martin left the guitar over for me, so that he could focus on the vox at 100%. And I am actually a guitar player from the beginning.
How did your first release on Black Sun Records, "Evilized", do?
Evilized didn't go too good but fortunately people kinda dug it anyway. Some songs are pretty good. And the reviews were great.
How many CD's were sold?
I think we sold about five thousand albums.
Are you still working with Black Sun Records?
Black Sun is history to us. It didn't work out as well as we hoped for. We recently changed label to Hammerheart. (Holland) Things will go spinning on faster now, coz they've got more fuel in their engines than Black Sun. Although B.S. did treat us very well. The deal with Century Media is between B.S. and C.M. So far things seem to work out well between them.
How is the new CD, "Terror Succeeds" doing so far?
As far as I know is the album going on quite good in the U.S. We sometimes get mail from American people who seem to like the album. That is a great sign.
Are you going to be going on any tours to support the new album?
There are actually no tours on Terror Succeeds, just a few gigs around Sweden. We hope for a tour on the next album that probably will be recorded in spring. None of us have ever been to the U.S. except for Valle on a vacation. He liked it, oh yes. I really hope that an American tour would be possible in the future.
Why did you add the addition member to Impious?
We added Erik to make IMPIOUS complete. To make out as much as possible from us musically. And I did some of the guitars on Terror Succeeds because Valle got real sick during the recording, it seemed to work out great. But there is a real negative point in adding a new member. He has to share our money and takes space on stage. Ha haaa.
Who are some of the bands influences?
Some of our influences are bands like Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Running Wild etc. But there are also emotions involved in the songs. A lot of unpleasant stuff.
Who are some bands you are listening to now?
Right now when I'm typing I'm listening to Kiss - Killers album, great huh? Otherwise a lot of metal in the veins of Rage (Germany), Megadeth and Dream Theatre.
If you could pick any band, past or present to tour with, who would it be and why?
This is a hard question. Hmmm. Probably Mötley Crüe. Because the guys in Mötley seem to know how to make a blast when they are on tour and I really dig their stuff big time.
Favorite tour you were on?
It must have been when we made a mini tour through Belgium and Holland. It was a riot. Lots of memories from the places. Great audience, food, beer, women etc. The people were most hospitable.
What is Impious doing right now? Terror Succeeds was recorded a little while ago. Are you write more material?
At last I would like to mention that hopefully IMPIOUS third album will be released summer 2002. It will be a smash in your face. A lot of head swaying material, even heavier than before.
Anything else you would like to add?
I would like to thank all the American bastards who bought, stole or whatever our album and liked it. Please write and tell us what you like, dislike about it, us. I really hope that Terror not will Succeed !!!
