Interview
with Hazaël from kabbal by Jen
2007 Update: I can't figure out how to work their website. LOL. They do have a myspace, I'll attach that link below.
In the beginning of this year, they posted a blog on their myspace about needing a new bass player. Not sure if they found one, nothing has been mentioned about it since. Once they have a new bass player, they will be able to release a new album, as they have been writing new tunes.
Give
me some Kabbal history. When was the band formed? How long have you been
together? How did you guys all get together?
Well, the story of the band is really simple, I formed the band in '99
when I was guitarist, and after a lot of changes and three demos (The
Wretched in 2000, Supreme Ritual in 2001 and Heretic in 2002) we signed
a deal with Diamond Prods, and our album "Synthetically Revived"
was born. It's the fruit of a long work together, all our passions and
influences, and I'm really proud of this, but today the band is crossing
a really bad period, me and Trisophiliac are the only survivors of the
clash.
To someone who has never heard your music, describe
your sound.
I think our sound is effective, powerful and pure. I did not used triggers
for my drums and the guitars are not compressed. The sound can live and
diffuse, I'm satisfied of.
I have the album Synthetically Revived. Tell
me about that, when it was recorded, when the sounds were written?
T he sounds were written between June and September 2003, at this time,
we played all days of a week . We recorded in September during two weeks.
Are you happy with the final outcome of the
album ? Is there anything you would have wanted to do different?
Yes I'm happy and proud, you know, death metal is not popular style and
we probably will never live with our music, but the satisfaction to do
an album with our ideas, our influences and our heart is really important.
I told you, our sound is true. I would have wanted a better level for
drumming but except this I'm satisfied.
Are you currently writing new material? When
can we expect another release from you guys?
Yes, we're writing our second album but as I told you, we are only two
so, it will take more time
You are currently looking for a new singer,
what happened there? Have you found anyone yet?
T he response is short: no, but we're still looking for.
I compared your sound to Krisiun. Would you
agree with that comparison?
Hum, Krisiun? Yes, I agree but I think on the next album, it will be more
like the sound of Immolation, more powerful.
Who are some other bands you would use as a
comparison?
I can't compare more, you can find in our sound the influences of so many
death metal bands. I'm satisfied on our sound, that's right, but I think
it's quasi impossible today to have an original sound on a death metal
album, maybe we're not able...
Do you get to play many shows out? How is the
scene over in France? Do you get to play other countries often?
Actually we can't play, and it makes me crazy.
How did you hook up with Diamond Productions?
How are they treating you so far?
They liked our third demo, and they proposed us a deal, but there was
nothing in deal about scenes and shows and it's my biggest regret, that's
why we have done so few scenes.
You also are on the comp from Diamond, Altars
of Mad Death. Tell me about that and some of the bands on the comp.
That's good, this have been well received I think, I know some of the
bands on but I regret that we can't play more with them!
How are you guys promoting yourself? Is it
hard getting the name out there?
I t's galley for us actually, but I don't know what happened for the other
bands.
What do you guys do for fun in France? Do you
guys hang out together, or just do the band thing and that's it?
Well, I'll be direct, I think France is a country of shit!
There's nothing to do here, I'm really really NOT proud to be French,
and for finish, I think I'll try to leave this country!
What are your top 5 releases of 2004?
I don't follow the actuality but I can tell you that I love Unholy Cult
by Immolation and their DVD, for the rest I don't know. Just wanna say
Pierced From Within by Suffocation is the best album ever done!!! I love
it!
Anything else?
I t's really hard to survive and the downloading kill the bands like us!
Fuck! Thank you.
