Update
2007: Here is an email I got from Joe: Well, LACINATION has been
out of the music scene for a while now. Like most bands we've had our differences
and just got tired mentally and needed a break.. David (drummer), Art (bassist)
and I (Joe guitarist) talked from time to time, wondering when or if we
would get back together and start doing some shows. After a long debate
over the style of music we decided instead of all death vocals, were adding
a bit of melodic vocals to some new songs and some older stuff as well.
With two new members in the line up Dimas Munoz(vocalist) and Rene Christian
Cantu(Lead Guitarist) we talked about changing the name of the band, but
LACINATION just seems to be the best fit for us.. Were going to eventually
make another myspace account and make another web-site for the band.. September
15th will be our first show in almost a year. We will be playing at Bonds
007 located at 450 Soledad, San Antonio, TX, and will be placing an ad in
the edge magazine to help promote the show. We are all pretty pumped about
writing some new music and seeing what the future brings for us. Till next
time thanks for keeping local metal alive and SEE YOU IN THE PIT!!!
Update 2006: Here is the email I got from the guys: "Well
it was a long 2005 for us. things dont look to good for LACINATION right
now, but i guess thats how it goes for lots of bands. you have your ups
and you have your downs. i personally want to thank every one for there
support to keep local music alive and kicking ass. theres only one thing
to do. wait and see what the new year has instored for us. hope to see every
one in the pit. thanks a bunch". However I was just
at their Myspace page and they do have new news, they are playing and booking
shows again. So it looks like things are looking up for the band once again.
Update 2005: The guys we are headed back to the studio to record
our new album. its gonna be an eight song cd entitled
after the band LACINATION. were also gonna have a bonus track along with
it. we've made some changes as far as the title of the cd. We're gonna take
some time on this cd, and i'll be spending a lot of time in the studio for
the recording, especially for the mixing and mastering. we want this cd
to grab our fans, and all the listeners of death metal music.
Interview
with David from Lacination by Jen
First
off, where are you guys from?
We are all from San Antonio, TX.
How and when did your band come together?
Well, about two years back in late January 2001, myself and Joe (guitarist)
were thinking about putting together a band. Not just any band, something
that was completely different in the local metal scene at that time. We
were focus on what we wanted to do since the beginning and we are still
focus.
Tell us about your award, the Best Death Metal
Band for 2002
We did not make this band to get any awards (how many death metal bands
get awards anyway's?) But with that said, we greatly appreciate all the
people here in San Antonio and Texas who voted for us because this award
comes from the people and that is such an honor! With so many great talent
here, it’s great to see that people understand what Lacination is
all about!!
For someone who never heard you, describe your
music.
We are foremost a death metal band with melodic style riffs. We don’t
bother to carter to anyone else because that’s been done to death
already. We try to uphold out belief in our music and see if the people
out there get the message and lately they have.
What releases do you have out currently?
We do have 2 releases that have been completed. The first one is a demo
called "UNHOLY TRINITY" made back in April 2001. It is a three
song CD and the second one is called "CLONE THE HOLY". That
was completed in June 2002, It is a 5-song CD. We are currently working
on our first full length CD "DARKNESS REBORN."
Who are some of your influences, as a band and
as an individual.
For myself, my influences range from old school metal,"KILL EM ALL"
to thrash metal and most of the brutal stuff Suffocation, Decide, Dying
Fetus, Vader, Incantation. We are very diverse I think as a band. We have
so many different influences within this band that just makes us sound
different and the same.
Who are some bands you get to play with when
you have shows?
As far as local shows we have played with many different types of bands
and we get along with all of them. We have done local shows with: Lift,
Deviant (from Dallas), Doctura, Metalic Dreamz, Shallow Grave, Mortality,
Gored, Mortal Suffering, Malificent, Putrilage and many more extreme bands.
Our out of town shows we have played with Immortal Remains (Houston, Funeral
Rites (Houston), Condemned (Houston) and again many more brutal bands.
Have you been compared to any bands?
Mainly other national bands like Cannibal Corpse, Decide
Have you guys been in any other bands before?
Nobody else in Lacination has been in a band prior to this but I have.
I played with a band called Animosity awhile back. We were mostly a cover
band. It was a learning experience for me and then came XANEX another
cover band that was a three piece. As soon as we were stepping into doing
out originals the band broke up, that was also a learning experience for
me. Lacination is my part of my creation and I intend to keep my full
attention on it.
How long have you been playing drums?
Well, I been playing on and off for about 5 years now. I have to tell
you though these last two years were the most intense than my previous
years of playing.
What kind of set do you have now and what was
your first kit?
I play on a Premier Custom set with a full rack system. Back when I started
I played on a Rogers 3-piece set and quickly after I threw that away and
got myself a Tama Double Kick Set. I was happy!
What bands are you listening to currently?
I mainly listen to extreme metal. I am very interested in the newer stuff
out there right now, so much talent out there right now. Some black metal
acts are okay for me.
Anything else you would like to add?
On behalf of Lacination we all would like to thank you Jenn for your continued
support and dedication to the music scene. Keep it up! And to our fans
and the people who support metal. Thank you very much, to all the bands
that we have played with and made friends with much respect to you all
and see you all soon!
LACINATION WILL REMAIN!
