2005 Update:
In May, Lividity went oversea's for the Fuck the Commerce festival, in Germany. We are proud to announce the most extreme and exciting drummers to create in the LIVIDITY camp, Jordan Varela aka The Violator. You will hear his work in the crushing bands as LUST OF DECAY, DEBODIFIED, and DOMINATION THROUGH IMPURITY. Most recently, filled in for NILE in a one show gig in Europe end of last year. We look forward to creating the new material and getting in your face with some live performances!!

Interview with Dave from Lividity by Mike Meier

Let’s get the unpleasant business out of the way right at the top - why was the European tour cancelled? Any chance we’ll see you guys playing in Europe anytime soon?
There wasn't a solid plan with the booking agency and the label, so we weren't 100% behind the deal, so we had to postpone... hopefully there will be another time we will come and rage in Europe, we are ready!! Let's get sick!!!
The new album is full of references to “Fetish for the Sick.” You have the word “Sick” in the title, the artwork looks similar, there’s a sequel to “Pussy Lover”... was that intentional or did it just happen that way?
It was natural actually that it worked out that way!! We are always believing in the original older tunes we started playing and the root of our background and musical influences etc... so after we started creating this album there were a lot of ideas and thought processes that made us dive into the “Fetish...” era!! So we kept going with it and made it seem so much more complete now!! It wasn't the original plan, but that’s what creating is all about... blowing even your own mind!!!
I’ve been trying to figure this out ever since I got the CD - what movie is the intro to “A Woman’s Place Is on My Face” from? That’s Cameron Diaz I m hearing there, isn’t it?
I've never heard Cameron wound up in brutalizing sex acts... haha... actually it’s taken from a porn video we possess and seemed like it fit the mood real well!!
And there I’ve gone and made a colossal fool of myself. Anyway, moving right along... and what the hell are the lyrics to “Conception Through Ingestion” about? I didn’t get the lyric sheet, and I have a hard time getting my head around that concept...
You know, conceiving as in child or demon birth... Ingestion dealing with the inside stomach area.. so some fucked up demon child coming out of the intestinal tracts devouring the mother from within, making a total mess of things!! Something like that!
Speaking of the lyrics, where did the idea for the name Lividity and the logo with the upside down cross and the 666 come from? That doesn’t really seem to fit the whole porn/gore thing, which is obviously an important part of what the band is about. So why “Lividity” and not something like “Cockmonster Dave and the Pussy Lovers”?
Lividity was a name found by a friend that jammed with me in '93 and we were looking through his medical books and came across it and it fit the thought and theory best to what death and brutality meant to me!! When the body quits living the blood pools up at the lowest point of your body and rigor mortis sets in, it gets brutal!! Like poetry in motion!!! The 6's and inverted cross was my idea and our good friend, Von Young of brutal band Craden, drew it up for us in '95 and it has been the power that has driven our band these 10 years!! Never has changed and never will!! It will always stand tall on our releases!! It represents a source of freedom, independence, individuality, strength, unity, aggression, truth, barbarity, and much more!!
Have you ever encountered censorship problems in the past? The new album is apparently being sold with a toned-down version of the artwork in Germany.
The toned down version was only made at 1000 pieces strong for the distribution through SPV in Europe, there was a sick cover drawn by Artgore in Mexico... the 2 covers is no big deal, still contains the same music and guts to the release!!! No problems with censorship though!! Morbid however has maybe had some run ins with authority on some of their sicker material... who knows!! It was asked of us and there was no problem.... they both are killer for the collection!!
What meaning does the term Underground hold to you these days?
Underground is a unity of individuals with the need to experience freedom and growth as youth and adult, with a non commercialized outlet of music and party, makes for a true and honest group that can help strengthen each other almost like a cult would!! Wouldn't have it any other way!! And rip offs can suck my dick!!! And then get impaled by that hard mother fucker!!!
Are you at all worried that your older fans will see signing to Morbid Records as selling out? Is that maybe one of the reasons why “Till Only the Sick Remain” looks so much like “Fetish for the Sick”?
I don't understand that theory at all, you must be smoking a lot of crack and talking to some insecure people!! We have always done what we wanted to as long as it benefits the band!! There is no pressure or stress or cares about what anyone else would ever think of the band... Before Morbid there was a handful of undergrounders that would pay attention and now with all the promotion and radio airplay and interviews we are creating an army, how can someone be considered selling out when we are recruiting more sick fuckers than ever before... I would think personally that someone wouldn't be doing true research and I would be appalled by such a remark and they won't ever need to support us ever again if they wish, but our whole goal is for great distribution and Morbid has picked that end up perfectly!!! So we don't have a lot of time to set around and make strategic plans to conquer a scene and demoralize it to better ourselves and such!! We just fucking want to jam!!!
What are your plans for the immediate future?
To sell out, play Britney Spears covers and bring the undergound down to make a lot of money and .... hehe You know... we just want to jam!!!
And finally, protocol demands that I ask you this: Would you agree that Jenn from Metal Mafia is morbidly obese?
No, Jenn is actually a real slender short chick with great personality and supports all in brutality!! A great friend as well... you have her confused or don't have all the facts yet brother!! Try again......
I know, but I still had to ask, old in-joke, nevermind. Well, that’s all I’ve got. Any final words?
That last question made no sense to me, but to each their own... It's never to cool to bring peoples attention in that matter... the Metal Mafia chicks and the material within is top notch metal support!! Support the bands that support the scene... thanx Mike for the killer interview... Everyone get a hold of us for the merchandise available and the Coven Of Death Distro we carry!! Stay Sick!!
