2007 Update: Their main link is down, but their myspace say it's now a tribute page, which makes me think they are no longer together anymore. Their myspace has some tracks, video's, old interviews and some other random things on the band. Emperial Massacre looks to still be together, I will add their link to the bottom of this page. If I find anything else out about either, I will let you know.
2005
Update: Jason recently left
the band to pursue other avenues. The band is still continuing on without
him. Jason will be playing in a new band called Emperial Massacre with another
former member of Mortal Suffering, along with a former member of Incest.
Interview
with Jason of Mortal Suffering by Jen
Jason,
first off, I have to say thanks so much for the killer logo and background
for my site! Did you go to school for design?
No I did not go to school for design its just something I
started up with since I was in high school out of boredom, I've just always
really been into computers and just needed something to pass the time.
Then I decided to start doing digital artwork and stuff so I do web sites,
logos, band artwork, business cards etc...
What other bands/web sites have you done work
for?
Its a kind of small list, i'm only just starting to build up a clientele:
http://www.maleficent.com
http://www.dominicsoria.com (JMP-link down)
http://mortalsuffering.tripod.com (JMP-link down)
Are you currently the webmaster for any other
sites?
Nope...just webmaster for the sites listed above pretty much, I'm also
just starting one for the haunted house called TERROR MANSION, don't know
if you've heard of it but I've done they're fliers and now I'm working
on the web site.
Any that are currently your favorite, other
than mine of course? (heehee)
Well...other than yours...;)...I'd have to say ONE of my faves and one
of the BIGGEST web sites I've done as far as the quantity of work that
was put into it would have to be http://www.dominicsoria.com. It's a web
site I made for Mortal Suffering's tattoo artist, he's a killer artist
and has made a lot of money from it. I did all of the artwork on the web
site myself.
Tell me about your band Mortal Suffering- How
long have you been together, how did you all meet, etc?
Um...we've been together for a little over 4 years now, going on 5. We
originally started out by the moniker Misanthropy but due to some unexpected
circumstances I changed the name to Mortal Suffering and we all agreed
upon it. It was originally formed by ex-guitarist Johnathan and drummer
Ryan...Several members later Jon filled in on vocals/bass and I filled
in on rhythm/lead guitar/backing vocals. At some point in the past we
all worked and went to school together so we all pretty much knew each
other already. so yea that's how it all got started.
How many releases do you have out right now?
Not very many, they're all demos and stuff. There are several versions
of demos floating somewhere around Texas.
You guys have a new release planning on coming
out in early 2005. How is that going? How will this be different than
past material you have done?
Yea we have planned a release of our first cd, it's being produced at
Edit Point Studio's but due to some lack of funds I have taken over production
capabilities at my own studio and it is coming along VERY great and the
guys love it a lot. It is different from past material because a lot of
the old material is more black metal influenced and we have gone kind
of through a change to more of a death metal approach, but still a little
bit of black metal is there.
Some of your influences of the band? Some favorite
bands right now that you are listening to?
Some of our influences would include Decapitated, Emperor, Hate Eternal,
Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Dark Funeral, Immortal, Impaled, Zyklon, stuff
like that ya know? Ad far as what we listen to pretty much the same also
The Legion, Grief of Emerald, Exhumed, Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains,
Origin, Nile.
What about shows, where you are located, are
there a lot of clubs, venues to play at? Do you get to play a lot of them?
We are located in San Antonio, Tx, the scene is VERY dry here
in SA, its pretty sad, its hard for us to get even one show every 3 months
here. But we DO play around and out of Texas a lot like Houston, Laredo,
McAllen, Corpus, Austin and as well Mexico, the scene is GREAT in Mexico,
people will stay until 3am to watch local bands i love it there and we
always have fun, people are so nice and respectful there. One of the best
Venues we've ever played at as far as sound and popularity would be Cardi's
in Houston, that's where all the national acts play and we play there
very often, we have more shows out of town than we do in our own town...haha
Who
are some of your favorite bands to play with? Have you opened for any
national acts?
Some
of our favorite bands to play with would have to be Immortal Remains and
Condemned from Houston, Tx, those guys are very fuckin brutal and they
are a trip to hang out with. There are VERY good bands in houston, but
just not a very strong following, but its a hell of a lot better than
S.A.
Do
you have any horror stories from a show going wrong or something along
those lines?
umm...no
not really, we do some pretty fucked up shit before shows though like
jumping ditches, breaking glass bottles over our heads (Ryan), burning
shit like bibles or whatever we can find. But as far as horror stories
and stuff, nah not really. The worst thing that ever happened to me on
stage was when my guitar fell of the stage cuz i had to put it down for
a bit and the entire neck cracked in half, that sucked...
Alright,
is there anything else you want to plug or comment on?
