2007
Update: On their website, the news section hasn't been updated since 2006, and the same for their myspace blogs. Their myspace link is below. Also, they are not listed as a current Victory band; they signed with Facedown Records in 2004, so I added their link at the bottom of the page too. Other than the touring they did last year, I can't find anything current on these guys. It looks like they are active though on myspace, so hopefully they will start 'blogging' again soon.
2005
Update: They have been playing a ton of shows since the new year
started. Also in the news, we have booked our studio time for 2 weeks in
August at Trax East Studios out in South River, NJ. We will be working with
Eric Rachel who has an amazing talent for what he does and has worked on
the newest records by God Forbid, Twelve Tribes, Symphony In Peril, Alove
For Enemies, A Perfect Murder, etc... We couldn't be happier about this
decision. Originally we were hoping for a summer 2005 release, but the record
will now be pushed to Fall 2005. We are very happy with how the writing
process is going and we did not want to rush ourselves at all. We want to
put out the best NIV record to date.
Interview
with guitarist Tim Mason of No Innocent Victim, by Jen
Give
us your current line up.
Well it's Jason Moody on vocals, Kyle Fisher on bass, Jason Dunn on drums
and I'm the new guy. My name is Tim Mason and I play guitar.
Tell us about your new release.
Ok, it's called "Tipping the Scales" and it came out about 2
months ago. We are all very happy with how is came out. It's the hardest,
heaviest and meanest release we have put out to date. We just really like
the album as a whole. The artwork, layout, just everything.
When
was it released?
On May 22nd. That was the release date. So it's been out for about 2 months.
How
do you think this one differs from the others?
This one is just a lot faster and harder. It's the heaviest stuff we've
ever done. It has tons of energy and attitude from beginning to end.
When
was it recorded?
It was recorder at the beginning of the year. We were in the studio in
the last week of January and the first week of February. We took our time
and made sure everything sounded the way we wanted.
Overall
are you pleased with the outcome?
Like I said before, we are all very pleased with the outcome. I mean,
the album is relatively short but we wanted it that way. I mean we could
have made it longer and shoved in some filler songs, but we didn't want
to do that. We wanted all the songs to be equally good, you know. We had
tons of songs written but these were 11 of the only ones we thought were
good enough for the album.
Do
you have any tours coming up to support the new album?
We just got off tour with a couple bands. XdiscipleX Ad and this other
band The Deal. They are both really awesome bands. We were gone for a
month on that and we are working on some other stuff right now.
How
is the CA scene for Metal?
I think it's good. I think there are a lot of kids out here into metal.
I mean for a while not that many people were into metal but all of the
sudden it just exploded and everyone is into metal.
For
someone who never heard you before, how would you describe your music?
Well, we are just straight forward, no frills, no gimmicks. Fast riffs,
hard breakdowns and then onto the next song. Just a lot of attitude and
energy.
Who
are some of your influences? Who was one of the first bands you heard,
when you said to yourself that is what I want to do?
There are so many but for the most part, it was Slayer and Matt Henderson.
Slayer for the obvious reasons. Those guys were just bad. Matt Henderson
played for Madball and Agnostic Front. He was just so awesome. I love
the stuff he writes and I don't even think he wrote a bad song.
Who
are some of your favorite bands you have played with and why?
Agnostic Front is just awesome because they started it all. The U.S. Bombs
are one of the best punk bands out there today and Hatebreed was awesome.
We toured with all of them and they were just awesome guys and tore it
up every night they played.
What
are your lyrics about, what do you sing about, or what kind of message
are you trying to send?
Well, we are all Christians in this band and that is the only reason we
do this band. We are not here to preach or cram anything down anyone's
throat. We are here to show people what we have found, with anyone who
wants to listen or talk to us. If not, that's cool. We respect everyone.
How
long has NIV been around?
NIV has been around for close to 10 years.
If
you could hook up on tour with one band, past or present, who would it
be and why?
Well we have toured with Hatebreed and that's one of my favorite bands.
But I would love to tour with them again. I would also want to tour with
Madball and Slayer. That would just be awesome.
Anything
else you would like to add?
Thank you for the interview and the support. If you don't have our new
album, go check it out. It's called "Tipping the Scales". Thanx
again.
