HURTSMILE Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of HURTSMILE self-titled debut album on February 8, 2011 in the US. HURTSMILE is a new band featuring singer Gary Cherone (Extreme, Van Halen) who has teamed up with his brother Mark to write his most succinct record to date. The self-titled, HURTSMILE is a raw sonic sucker punch in the face! From the opening buzz saw riff of “Just War Theory” to the epic finale of ”Slave” and “Beyond The Garden/Kicking Against the Goads”, Gary continues to push and poke you in the ear with his lyrically provocative themes. “Hurtsmile was a long time coming… I always wanted to write a record with my brother,” says Gary. "I'm a big fan of Mark’s song writing and his snarling guitar riffs." The timing was right as Extreme was in-between their touring and record cycle, leaving Gary the freedom. They recruited Joe Pessia (bass) an alumnus of Nuno Bettencourt’s Dramagods as well as the guitar player for Tantric. Joe also engineered, and co-produced the record with Gary. To round off the lineup they enlisted heavy hitter Dana Spellman on drums “It’s an east coast-Boston thing,” states Gary. “Mark, my brother, was in a band with Nuno’s brother… Joe was in Nuno’s band and Dana was a friend, and student of Mike Mangini (former Extreme drummer) … we like to keep it in the family.” The lineup is not the only thing familiar with the band. In true Cherone fashion, the record is chock full of swaggering guitar, soaring vocals and the trademark Cherone eclecticism on tracks such as “Jesus Would You Meet Me”, the reggae-tinged “Just War Reprise” and the Dylanesq “The Murder of Daniel Faulkner (4699)”. “Hurtsmile was about returning to my roots, writing a record in my basement, a straight up rock ‘n’ roll record… but it turned out to be more diverse and ambitious than I expected.” Gary is no stranger to taking on intense topics, and Hurtsmile is no exception. The first half of the record is a group of more loosely knit songs such as the cynically inquisitive "Just War Theory", the limit's of free speech "Tolerance Song (edit)" and the disturbingly mesmerizing “Kaffur (Infidel)”, inspired by the beheading of Daniel Pearl. The 2nd half of the record is more conceptually cohesive; an introspective look at the nature of man and the condition of the human heart. “Stillborn" introduced earlier, and "Set Me Free" both touch on mans inclination toward darkness, culminating with an epic journey from sin to salvation… "Slave" to "Beyond the Garden/Kicking Against the Goads". For the most part both themes are represented as 2 sides of a record. A concept familiar to Extreme fans but make no mistake, whether reading between the lines or just moved by the visceral power of the music, this is a completely different type of record. Gary adds, "All the boys in the band have brought something new to the table, and you'll never know what hit you!" (VQPR)
RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: What a challenge it was to schedule an interview with Laura Pleasants
(Kylesa)! It was postponed no less than five times (!) by our
correspondent for reasons beyond our respective controls. But here at Radio
Metal, we're the stubborn type, especially when an interview holds so many
promises. There's no doubt to us that the fans of the musical UFO that is
Kylesa will be in seventh heaven when they read what the lady had to say. Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.
ETERNAL DESCENT Eternal Descent is a comic book and music series unlike any other - and so is the new Eternal Descent Lyra, a limited edition multi-effects pedal that brings the sound of the globally popular series to guitarists everywhere. Eternal Descent is a cross-genre story that blends elements of fantasy, action, music, superhero, gothic, science fiction, supernatural and other elements into an ongoing saga featuring Lyra, the series' heroine. Lyra is a rock singer who is quick-witted, beautiful, talented, has attitude to spare - and is immersed in a battle with demons both internal and external awaiting her at every turn. Music is integral to Eternal Descent. Created by writer Llexi Leon, the comics revolve around the exploits of Lyra and her band, Constellation Nine, and rock and metal bands like Static X, Atreyu, Firewind, Shadows Fall and others have made guest appearances. A series of albums have been released that bring the comic to life with music created specifically for the series. Featuring the Eternal Descent logo, distinctive Lyra graphic and a dark metallic purple finish, the DigiTech Lyra delivers the signature tones, sounds and effects that legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kiss and others) and his team used to record the Eternal Descent albums. Seven preset tones, from clean to moderate overdrive to crushing distortion, are available that match seven songs from the albums. Each preset tone can be further modified by the Lyra's Gain and FX Mix knobs. When the knobs are in the 12 o'clock position, the sound matches the sound of the actual song. Turning the Gain knob left or right increases or decreases the amount of amp/distortion gain, while turning the FX Mix knob left or right increases or decreases the amount of the modulation, delay and reverb effects for each of the seven presets. A Level knob controls the output volume. The pedal has mono and stereo outputs and can be powered by a 9V battery or the included AC power supply. Features of the DigiTech Lyra Pedal: • 7 Signature tones from Eternal Descent sessions; • Controls for Level, Gain, FX Mix and Lyra; • Mono or Stero Outputs; • Custom Eternal Descent Artwork; • Rugged cast-metal chassis; • Includes PS200R power supply. The Lyra pedal's tonality is showcased at this link. The Lyra Pedal product image is available for viewing here. The pedal is on display at Booth #212A at the Anaheim Convention Center during the 2011 Winter NAMM Conference. For more information about the DigiTech Lyra Pedal, please visit this link. The DigiTech Lyra is expected to ship in March 2011. Eternal Descent,

RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Sascha Gerstner is a common-sense man: "there are just too many heavy metal bands, everybody thinks he is a guitar player, everybody thinks he is a producer, everybody thinks he is a rock star." That's the truth and we
needed someone to tell it. Read more in a really interesting interview of
Helloween's current guitar player which also reveals many details about the

WHITESNAKE
WHITESNAKE, the legendary rock’n’roll legacy founded and formed by renowned singer/songwriter David Coverdale , unleashes a brand new storming ‘Snake statement, “Forevermore” on Frontiers Records on March 25th in Europe and March 29th in North America. Their 11th studio album, “Forevermore” was recorded, produced and mixed by Coverdale, guitarist Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA, and WHITESNAKE will take to the road for a full world tour in support of the release. Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, WHITESNAKE carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock’n’roll bands. Coverdale’s blues and soul roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound, and add to that Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship and you have a failsafe recipe for success. Their ascent to the very top of the rock’n’roll tree was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two top 10 hits, two number one singles with ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ and a virtual 24 hour domination of MTV around the world. Such triumphs were surely foretold when as a young man from Saltburn-By-Sea; Coverdale enthusiastically answered the call to be Deep Purple’s singer. Such bombast, bravado, talent and passion have thus helped establish WHITESNAKE as the perennial platinum favorite they have become. With “Forevermore” Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Brian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass, and as with all WHITESNAKE’s albums, Coverdale aided so capably by Aldrich opens up his heart and soul to express emotions and empathy rarely heard these days in any musical genre. More than simply their latest release, “Forevermore” represents WHITESNAKE’s no holds barred, most heartfelt, melodic and musically muscular excursion for many a year.
The album’s release will be anticipated by the digital only release of the first single/video clip “Love Will Set You Free” on February 21st. “Forevermore” will be specially released on a “Snake Pack” edition for the first 3 weeks in England only. This very special release – arranged in conjunction with Future Publishing and Classic Rock magazine - will come with a collector’s edition 132 pages deluxe magazine + A1 poster & metal pin badge and shall feature an exclusive cover art and 2 bonus live tracks “Slide It In” and “Cheap An’ Nasty” which will serve as an appetizer for the forthcoming “Live @ Donington 1990” to be released in the summer 2011. The album is also being released on a double gatefold vinyl format, with deluxe special editions to be announced shortly. This time Coverdale and Co. have really laid it on the line for their fans, and be sure of this, the Snake’s charms are going to convert a whole new army of believers… just watch. "Forevermore” will include the following songs: Steal Your Heart Away; All Out Of Luck; Love Will Set You Free; Easier Said Than Done; Tell Me How; I Need You (Shine A Light); One Of These Days; Love And Treat Me Right; Dogs In The Street; Fare Thee Well; Whipping Boy Blues; My Evil Ways; Forevermore. RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK:Tarja Turunen is not easy to interview, as you sometimes need to ask a
question several times before you can get an honest answer, instead of
rehearsed wooden language or harmless answers, much too positive to be
credible that reminds us of some exasperating politically correct pop
artists. Apart from that unpleasant feeling, the interview happened to be
interesting. she is talkative and happy to tell us about personal
anecdotes. Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.
JAMMITLearning music is difficult. Changing the way it is learned is even more challenging. Revolutionizing the industry is unheard of until now with the introduction of Jammit™, the first and only music software offering budding and veteran rock stars access to top industry artists’ original multi-track master recordings. The unveiling will be held on January 27th at 1 PM in Media Center room #2008 at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. Afterward, it will also be on display with live demos at booth #339. Created by renowned music producer Scott Humphrey (Motley Crue, Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne), Jammit™ gives music fans of all levels a way to learn their favorite artists’ tracks as they were meant to be played. Features include instrument isolation, synchronized notation and tablature combined with phrase looping and a slow speed function without changing pitch. Jammit™ truly is a music edu-tainment revolution. A quick product video demo is available on YouTube. Jammit™ is comprised of a proprietary technology developed by Humphrey and his team of engineers that will inevitably change the way music is learned in the home, music studios and education facilities across the world. “Until now, there was always a level of uncertainty of how the original track was played,” said Humphrey. “Jammit™ offers musicians a unique combination of software features combined with isolated tracks from the original multi-track master recordings. Our ever expanding library features many of the top artists from the last four decades.” A sampling of the vast Jammit™ library includes access to fan favorites such as Steve Vai, Rob Zombie, Nickelback, No Doubt, Marilyn Manson, Foreigner, Motley Crüe, Grateful Dead, Pantera and Alice Cooper among others. Previously, people had to rely on traditional learning tactics like printed sheet music or mixed audio files, constantly pushing play, rewind and play again on their music player. With the introduction of Jammit™, musicians finally have access to the isolated multi-tracks sessions combined with innovative and easy-to-use software for maximum learning potential. Proprietary variable timing reference technology offers users access to many features including: * Isolation of individual instruments and vocals for pinpoint learning * Synchronized scrolling notation and tablature; * Audio waveform displays for visual cues and navigation; * Looping and song section markers for detailed accuracy; * Performance recording and playback; * Slow playback mode that doesn’t affect the original pitch. By having the ability to isolate an individual instrument within a dense mix, a musician can hear the intricacies of an instrument, making it easier and more enjoyable to learn and emulate. The scrolling digital notation and tablature makes it easy to reference and follow along with the audio. Users can practice in loop mode, mute the isolated track, jam along with the band track and record their own performance. With the ability to learn from the master musicians themselves, Jammit™ is a must have for all music students and accomplished musicians. Available soon at Jammit, music lovers can easily download, install and purchase their favorite songs for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, OS X, Windows and other devices. (VQPR)

RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Papa Roach is part of those controversial bands, mainly because of its "commercial" side. "Commercial", a term which is the supreme insult in the world of underground. But Papa Roach doesn't care. In more than 10 years,
the band has evolved, it continues on its merry way, without giving a
damn, and it already thinks to its future, as we learn from the guitarist
and founder member Jerry Horton. Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.
RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Wednesday 13 (Murderdolls) is pragmatic and peaceful. He's not interested
in conflicts and polemics unlike a large group of people delighted with it,
but without assuming it. Though, he's more talkative about the composition

least, we couldn't avoid to tackle this horridly not-funny video by Mad

The "Fast and Blue" magazine features include: 8.5" x 11" dimensions; 24 pages; An intro to the album; 1 page with beautiful artwork devoted to each song; A narrative about each song's place in the overall theme of the album; A crayon drawing by actor Brad Pitt done in the first grade at Horace Mann Elementary School where he and Lisa LaRue were classmates; A full page bio with photos of each band member; Full-page official publicity photos; A scrapbook collage of band members and special guests taken during the making of "Fast and Blue"; Two pages specially devoted to the CD and DVD storage. "Fast and Blue is about how life can change so quickly, but yet this life we live may be but one of many we live throughout one long soul life," says LaRue. "The esoteric mysteries of the Knight's Templar, the Holy Grail and even my own indigenous culture all tie together in a big musical story. Many of us involved in the project have a deep interest in the many facets of this story, including Steve Adams' CD "Solomon's Key" and John Payne's continuing work on a Dan Brown-related theme." Based in Northeastern Oklahoma and working for her tribe (United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma), Lisa LaRue is not only fulfilling her dreams but hoping to be an inspiration to other native entrepreneurs. While staying in her home community and doing important work for her tribe, she is recording a progressive rock album with musicians from around the world! Progressive rock has recently witnessed a resurgence across the world, particularly in the UK, but as a Native American woman, Lisa has taken on a new challenge of working with musicians of different cultures and backgrounds to work in a unique way - each participant writes and records their own parts without any musical direction, but what comes from their heart. The combination of backgrounds, influences, demographics and talent is not only proof that music is the universal language, but that an indigenous woman can stay in her own tribal community and still work with the world and touch the world as well, in a way that is not stereotypical but uniting - while using modern technology to create the final product. One of the 'hold-ups' to native people being successful is the lack of opportunities in the tribal community. But with the internet and other forms of technology, it is now possible. "I've connected with fabulous musicians from other parts of the United States, Greece and the U.K., and we all share the common goal of creating great music, and have proven to ourselves that we write and play in spiritual harmony," says LaRue. By allowing each musician the opportunity to add to the songs what comes from their hearts without any musical direction, the outcome will show that music IS, indeed, the Universal Language. Special thanks to the many fans who were involved in the 2KX project and reaped rewards for their contributions. Those who pledged to the project qualified to receive a song written by LaRue for them or a loved one as well as numerous other rewards for their participation. RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: After having spent an hour on the phone with Ron Thal a.k.a. Bumblefoot, the first thing I thought to myself is "Man, this guy is excellent!". This
being because of his crazy dreams, his theory that Jagermeister is the
solution for everything, the t-shirt he wears on stage to tease his
colleagues, but also his work ethics and fairness. In fact speaking of
fairness, we can say that Ron was incredibly generous with this interview! Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.
RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Interviewing Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth) is a little like chatting with an old friend. After a solid handshake that threatens to break a few of your
metacarpi and a comment on the weather, the man settles with formidable
ease to answer our questions with disarming kindness and good humor. Johan
tells us all about the history of Surtur Rising, the metal cruise of the
century, the band's success in the US, and the sad fate of his famous
drinking horn. Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.
RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: It's clear to say that Kirk Windstein is always his natural self. This explains his self-assured comments on the raw quality of Down's latest live
album: "It wouldn't have been right to re-master it". The fact that he is
so rigorously spontaneous, to the extent that they never considered
re-touching Phil Anselmo's mediocre vocals on this album, is respectful
proof honesty. He also used the same freedom of speech to describe his
relationship with alcohol and recent sobriety. Interview. Check out our site at Radio Metal.

Eternal Descent is a comic book and music series unlike any other, a cross-genre story that blends elements of fantasy, action, music, superhero, gothic, science fiction, supernatural and other elements into an ongoing saga. Llexi Leon is the creator of multimedia concept Eternal Descent – which began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound - from classical, flamenco, electronic, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. Fusing these genres into one, Leon created a cinematic fantasia to accompany the ongoing Eternal Descent comic series, which launched March 2010 from IDW Publishing. Leon's love of music is only matched by his passion for comic books and animation – bringing stories to life through escapism, utilizing everyday events and a vivid imagination to create ongoing sagas of art, narrative and sound. Noise Creep (VQPR)
YES The world's most quintessential Prog Rock band YES, announces today their highly anticipated new album FLY FROM HERE. This marks the first album in ten years with legendary, 2-time Grammy Award winning producer, Trevor Horn. Horn and YES bassist Chris Squire re-discovered the track FLY FROM HERE which has never been recorded as a studio track. “Chris and I were talking one evening about a song ‘Fly From Here’ that we never recorded,” explains Trevor Horn. “I said I was prepared to spend two weeks with ‘YES’ recording that song. When I arrived in America to record it, I was taken prisoner by the band and only allowed my freedom again in return for producing the whole album. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse!!!” FLY FROM HERE encompasses YES’ signature brand of mysticism and grand-scale compositions. Maintaining a complex, symphonic sound that features the beautiful harmonies and strong heavy riffs they are known for. “The new album represents the best of YES from the 70s and the 80's with a current twist,” states Squire. Geoff Downes has also reunited with YES to record FLY FROM HERE, bringing YES' classic symphonic sound with his strong style of playing. Downes had originally joined YES and recorded the album Drama in 1980. YES features a lineup of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White, and Geoff Downes on keyboards with lead singer Benoit David. YES are the pioneers for the use of synthesizers and sound effects in modern music, which produced such timeless, symphonic-rock masterworks as "Roundabout," "Close To the Edge," and "Awaken". YES continued to push the cutting edge of art-rock music to their limits, selling over 30 million albums, reaching platinum status multiple times worldwide. YES’ powerful mainstream progressive compositions have influenced a generation of musicians with a hugely successful and indelible catalogue of music with hit albums such as DRAMA, FRAGILE, CLOSE TO THE EDGE and 90125. Classics such as “Roundabout,” a seminal hit which consistently appears on “the best songs of all-time” lists, and the group’s #1 hit “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” which Horn is responsible for. Taken from the YES album 90125, this single would form part of a unique double, which would see YES and Horn top both the UK and US charts simultaneously. RADIO METALINTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Love is a hackneyed, well-worn theme. Whitesnake, along with its legendary
frontman David Coverdale, is probably the one band that has made love its
favorite subject. But it always works ! Since David Coverdale is probably
