DARK SYMPHONIES recording artist AUTUMN TEARS' offer their 2007 release, "THE HALLOWING"! After a decade evolving, the band has finally shed its shell of neoclassical, darkwave and gothic sound, in place of a more traditional classical and chamber music style. Drawing influences from such masters as Bach, Brahms, Hayden, Mahler and a host of others, Autumn Tears boasts rich and diverse musical arrangements based on music theory. In place of the usual keyboards and samples, "The Hallowing" employs fully live, authentic classical instrumentation including a live string section, woodwinds, oboe, french horn and haunting, operatic vocals. For sound samples --> http://www.myspace.com/thetrueautumntears. AUTUMN TEARS with instrumentation on THE HALLOWING: Composition, arrangements, original lyrics - Ted Tringo; Lead and backing vocals, revised lyrics - Laurie Ann Haus; Flute, Clarient - Terran Olson; Strings, snare drum - Greg Ball. Session Musicians on THE HALLOWING: French Horn - Cathleen Torres; French Horn - William Eich; Oboe - Maya Glovinsky; Harp - Tanya Brody. The West Coast String Players on THE HALLOWING: Violin - Angela Hsu; Viola - Emily Packard .

CORVUS CORAX-The Atavistic Triad
Doom/ Gothic style dipping its black roots into the waters of black metal. Fast with a lot of keyboard work reminding me of Dimmu Borgir without the technical guitar work nor as brutal an edge and intricate drum work. Screechy vocals change up on occasion nothing breath-taking. The album only contains 4 songs but total playing time is almost 45 minutes. Very long songs. The first track is over 15 minutes. ("D")

NOVEMBERS DOOM-The Knowing
Doom/ Gothic style metal. Interesting guitar work. At times, the music is heavy with strong death metal vocals. Other times, acoustic work is accompanied by plain vanilla clean vocals. From what I remember, female vocals dominate one of the songs. Enjoying female vocals as I do, I would have liked them to have been a bit more prevalent. Over all, and interesting listen, but with so many bands of this genre, the album tends to wade through a mire of thick mud, going nowhere fast and dragging on. ("D")

LONG WINTER'S STARE-The Tears of Odin's Fallen
This is their 3rd release. Labeled as "Symphonic Dark Metal". I have heard of this band before but have never sampled their stuff. When I first put the CD into my player, I was very impressed with what I heard. A dark metal opera of multiple voices and instruments revealing a dark play of misery, anguish, anger. It was foreboding yet with a deep rooted unseen beauty as female vocals overlapped with male vocals. At times male vocals getting quite harsh and throaty in death metal style. That being said, the album began to lose it after a few songs, and I was finding myself not really interested in the songs not containing the female voice. To top it off, the album's last song is a 20 minute bore fest. If only the first couple of songs carried the rest of the way through. ("D")
